John Teschendorff has used the History of Ideas project to examine aspects of border conflict, war, religious bigotry, democratic process & guilt…even terror torture and death are interrogated beneath deceptively seductive abstracted surfaces.
This exhibition, the first in WA for five years, includes works on paper & canvas from Series I-VI shown over twenty years at Galerie Dusseldorf and the more recent Series VII drawings made at the El Bruc Arts Centre Barcelona Spain & the NES Residency Skagastrond Iceland.
John Teschendorff was born in Melbourne and moved to WA in 1985, serving as Head of the Curtin University School of Art 1987-1995 & retiring from that university in 2013. He is now Adjunct Professor of Visual Arts in the Faculty of Architecture Landscape & Visual Arts at the University of Western Australia.
This project is supported by the WA Government through a Department of Culture & the Arts Creative Development Grant.
