Successor States

Zac Corrie, Sam Gillies, Stuart James, Steve Paraskos, Kynan Tan

Successor States is an immense and immersive evening of large-scale spatial audio-visual live performances by Perth’s greatest exponents of the art.

Kynan Tan is an artist working with digital processes to investigate networks, data transference and relational structures between multiple senses. These works take the form of multi-screen audio-visual performances, installations, 3D-printed sculptures, improvised sound, and kinetic artworks involving electronic circuits, speakers and lights. Kynan has performed in Japan, Germany and throughout Australia, including events such as Test Tone (Tokyo), Channels Video Art Festival (Melbourne) and the NOW now Festival of Art (Sydney), and his works have also been exhibited at MOCA (Taipei, Taiwan), NH7 Festival (Pune, India), First Draft (Sydney) and the Perth Institute of Contemporary Art.

Sam Gillies is a West Australian-based composer and sound artist with an interest in the function of noise as both a musical and communicative code in music and art. Often treading the line between the musically beautiful and ugly, Sam's work relies on the use of interactive programming environments to create alternating sound worlds of extreme fragility and overwhelming density.

Zac Corrie is a multi-genre producer, composer, and performer from Melbourne Australia. A saxophonist with strong roots in the jazz tradition, his work has accompanied award winning short and feature films across the country.

Steve Paraskos is a studious Perth-based artist, composer, improvisor, producer and performer with risk and uncertainty. This non-idiomatic approach garnering multi-award winning film scores and contemporary dance works. The focus of Successor States for him is the powerful sense we have of the untranslatable and unknowable through art’s mystifying ability to demystify.
