The Colour Red

Presented by Moana and Lucas Bowers

“a uniquely ambitious collaboration lead by two highly innovative Western Australian creatives, both with a fearless approach to creative expression.” - Andrew Nicholls - Artist & Curator

Part comic book, rock ’n roll, dark fairytale and cowboy saga… The Colour Red melds original music, story-telling, visual art, animation and fashion into a fearless feast of creative expression. It is the creative collaboration of musician, performer and writer Moana Mayatrix and acclaimed artist and designer, Lucas Bowers.

'The Colour Red' is an edgy exploration of the repressed wild feminine. Tracing her journey from naive princess to wounded woman, through to her ultimate redemption as warrior, it is a celebration of the relentless strength and spirit of our inner Wild Woman.

The centrepiece of the installation will be the animated film 'The Colour Red', hand-drawn by Lucas and set to Moana's original murder-ballad 'The Colour Red'. The film will be projected within an intimate, bespoke enclosure created inside PSAS, for an immersive viewing experience.

A selection of Lucas' 'Colour Red' illustrated prints will be on display and available for purchase, together with a unique 'Colour Red Collection' of garments, designed and handcrafted by Moana and Lucas.

Opening night celebrations will occur on Friday 8 July from 6:30pm.

Saturday 9 July (Doors open at 7pm) will feature a specially choreographed performance by burlesque artist ESSIE FOXGLOVE, and elemental drone duo FILTH GODDESS, in addition to an intimate performance by WAM nominated art-rock band MOANA, whose cello-laden ballads, and atmospheric soundscapes will provide the accompaniment for Moana's powerful voice as she conjures The Colour Red's heroine - a spiritual assassin.

The Exhibition is open Sunday 10 July to Wednesday 13 July from 5-9pm, for after-dark lovers of the cutting edge.
